Some of my earliest memories are of riding through Washington's Cascade Mountains over Highway 20, which passes through North Cascades National Park, and then crosses over Washington Pass. I remember the sense of awe as we rounded a bend and I got my first look at the massive west faces of Silver Star Mountain and the wine spires, and further down the road the east faces of the towers that make up the Liberty Bell group. Now, almost two decades later I have stood atop many of these, and dozens of other peaks in the range, but the feelings that North Cascades evoke remain the same. Everywhere I go I compare what I see to this area, and am usually left a little disappointed. The photos here have been taken over the past few years, and are just a start in trying to portray the wonder of the range's backcountry; I know that to do this right it will take decades.
